Jorhat Engineering College, the premier institution of North East India and the second Government Engineering College of Assam has completed its fifty years of relentless service to the society.
The College came into existence on 7th January, 1959 at H.R.H.P.O.W. Institute of Engineering & Technology, Jorhat with the then Principal of the Institute, Sri H.N. Barua also as the Principal in-charge of Jorhat Engineering College. The College started functioning with admission of its first bath of students on 10th October, 1960.

The Department of Science & Technology plays a pivotal role in promotion of science & technology in the country. The department has wide ranging activities ranging from promoting high end basic research and development of cutting edge technologies on one hand to service the technological requirements of the common man through development of appropriate skills and technologies on the other.

The Dictionary of "Tai Ahom" is an online Tai Ahom Dictionary developed in Jorhat Engineering College. This project is funded by DST under DST-SHRI project.
